This year’s CONGO WEEKtheme will be “Sustainable Development”. We will talk about the importance of educated and professional women in SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT in Congo from a historical point of view. Why? Because knowledge on the historical and socio-cultural position of women is essential for informing policies and interventions aimed at enhancing the role of women in Africa today. Moreover, since patriarchal ideology has been introduced in Africa through the colonization process, most political accords have been reached without women. Though, before colonization, women used to be at the centre of decision making and contributed significantly to economic development and political struggles. In that context, we will highlight some chapters of history in order to understand our present and prepare our future.
